Equal Employment Opportunity and Non-Discrimination Policy

I. OVERVIEW & SCOPE
Murima Rides Co., headquartered in Embu, Kenya, has established a Non-Discrimination and Equal Employment Opportunity Policy ("EEO"). This policy applies to all aspects of the relationship between Murima Rides Co. and its employees, agents, partners, and drivers, including but not limited to:

  • Recruitment and advertisements for employment

  • Hiring and termination

  • Compensation and benefits

  • Assignment and classification of employees

  • Promotions, transfers, and training

  • Working conditions and disciplinary actions

  • Customer service delivery

These policies apply to:

  • Permanent and temporary employees

  • Independent contractors

  • Drivers and rider partners

  • All personnel working with or representing Murima Rides Co.

  • Any other persons or firms doing business for or with Murima Rides Co.

Any individual or partner found to have violated this policy will be subject to disciplinary measures, including termination of their relationship with Murima Rides Co.

This policy is consistent with the Kenyan Constitution (2010), the Employment Act (2007), the Labour Relations Act (2007), the Persons with Disabilities Act (2003), and other applicable laws and regulations. Where local laws provide greater protection, those provisions will take precedence.


II. POLICIES

1. DISCRIMINATION

Murima Rides Co. shall not tolerate, under any circumstances, any form of discrimination based on:

  • Race, ethnicity, or tribe

  • Religion, creed, or belief

  • Color

  • Age

  • Disability (physical or mental)

  • Pregnancy or parental status

  • Marital status

  • Sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression

  • Veteran or military status

  • HIV/AIDS status or health condition

  • Domestic violence victim status

  • National origin or place of residence

  • Political affiliation

  • Sex

  • Genetic or hereditary conditions

  • Socio-economic or geographic background

  • Any other status protected by Kenyan law

For qualified persons with disabilities, Murima Rides Co. will provide reasonable workplace accommodations in compliance with the Persons with Disabilities Act, 2003.

Discrimination in Service Delivery

Murima Rides Co. prohibits any form of discrimination in the provision of transportation services, including taxicab, motorcycle, or app-based rides.

Associated drivers and employees are required to comply with this policy. The company will not tolerate discriminatory practices that deny any customer full and equal access to services.

Prohibited Discriminatory Conduct includes:

  • Refusing to pick up or drop off a passenger due to a protected characteristic

  • Refusing service to a passenger with a service animal (in line with Kenya’s Persons with Disabilities Act)

  • Using derogatory, harassing, or offensive language toward customers or colleagues

  • Refusing service to or from certain neighborhoods, towns, or counties (geographic discrimination)

  • Treating passengers differently based on tribe, religion, or social status

2. HARASSMENT

Murima Rides Co. is committed to a work environment free from harassment.

Harassment includes any behavior, verbal or non-verbal, that:

  • Creates an intimidating, hostile, or humiliating environment

  • Interferes with an employee’s or driver’s ability to work or provide service

  • Targets individuals based on protected characteristics (tribe, religion, sex, age, disability, etc.)

Harassment is prohibited between colleagues, supervisors, drivers, customers, or any persons involved with Murima Rides Co.

3. SEXUAL HARASSMENT

Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature constitute harassment when:

  1. Submission to such conduct is made a condition of employment, promotion, or opportunity

  2. Submission to or rejection of such conduct affects decisions such as transfers, training, or benefits

  3. Such conduct creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive work environment

Prohibited conduct includes:

  • Sexual comments, jokes, or degrading remarks

  • Display of sexually suggestive objects, media, or images

  • Unwanted touching, advances, or propositions

Sexual harassment is prohibited whether between opposite sex or same-sex individuals.

4. AFFIRMATIVE ACTION

Murima Rides Co. seeks to promote inclusion, equality, and diversity in line with the Kenyan Constitution (Article 27 on Equality and Freedom from Discrimination).
We commit to:

  • Increasing representation and participation of women, youth, and persons with disabilities in employment and leadership

  • Providing equal opportunity for all qualified applicants and employees

5. REPORTING DISCRIMINATION & HARASSMENT

Any employee, driver, or contractor who feels they have been subjected to harassment or discrimination should promptly report to:

All reports will be handled confidentially. Timely reporting is encouraged to prevent recurrence.

Employees and drivers also retain the right to report violations directly to:

  • The Kenya National Human Rights Commission (KNCHR)

  • The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection

  • The Employment and Labour Relations Court (ELRC)

6. RETALIATION

Murima Rides Co. strictly prohibits retaliation against any individual who makes a report in good faith. Retaliation will itself be treated as a serious violation of this policy.

7. DISCIPLINARY MEASURES

Any employee, driver, or contractor found to have violated this policy will face disciplinary action, which may include:

  • Mandatory retraining

  • Suspension

  • Termination of employment or service contract

  • Revocation of driver/rider partnership

8. REMEDIES

Remedies for verified cases of discrimination or harassment may include:

  • Reinstatement

  • Promotion or transfer

  • Reasonable accommodation

  • Compensation (back pay, front pay, or damages)

  • Legal costs in compliance with Kenyan law

9. POLICY IMPLEMENTATION
